Weekend Wanders

This weekend, like most weekends, went by all too quickly. After work on Friday evening, my (adoptive) family and I went to dinner at Firebirds at the Stonebridge Town Center. If you haven’t eaten here, you should definitely give it a go. It’s delicious! Our occasion for going out was one of my best friends, Christine, who I’ve referred to as my little sister since I was in middle school, was often to her next duty station in New Orleans. Christine spent the first two years in the Marine Corps in Okinawa, Japan. She came home right before Christmas and left early Saturday morning. I already miss her terribly, but at least she is in the States now. I just may have to make a trip to New Orleans to visit her.

I spent most of Saturday morning sorting through clothes. Like, most women, I have more clothes than I know what to do with. But since I’ll be moving into a home with Alex soon, I thought I’d attempt to get rid of some things that haven’t the light of day in some time. I then headed to my friend Jennifer’s house in Glen Burnie, Maryland. Jennifer and I served together in Afghanistan and both needed a girls night to just relax, drink some wine, watch movies and chat. We also made strawberry cheesecake chimichangas that she found the recipe for on Pinterest. Because I’m a lover of all things cheesecake, I may have had one or two.

Sunday morning, I woke up feeling pretty refreshed considering I had a cold lingering from last week. It was good to actually sleep in past 7am. After hanging out with Jennifer a little more, I headed to the Tyson’s area to have an impromptu late lunch with my friend Sarah, who was the Maid of Honor at my wedding and she also served in Afghanistan with me. It was so nice catching up with her because I haven’t seen her in almost a year! We used to have a girls night at least once a month, but with us both starting new careers outside of the Marine Corps, we haven’t been able to see each other as often. After lunch we headed back to her apartment to continue catching up and then, I headed home before dark.

It was really great seeing some of my favorite friends this weekend and I hope that we can see more of each other this year!
