When Jess and Kevin placed their offer on what is now their home in Alexandria, VA, they wrote a letter to the sellers that said, if they accepted their offer, they would have their wedding there. Needless to say, their offer was accepted and they had the sweetest, intimate DC War Memorial wedding ceremony and reception right in their own backyard.
Jess and Kevin were about as sweet and laid back as you can get. Like most couples who got married this year, they have dealt with postponements and COVID restrictions, pivoting, and changes of plans. But at the end of the day, they just wanted to be married and begin the rest of their lives together.
They held their ceremony in Washington, DC at the War Memorial. It was a perfect September day and everyone was in the best of spirits. After their ceremony, they had a champagne toast and cupcakes to share with their guests and drove off in a classic car that was given to Kevin by his uncle.
Their backyard was the perfect setting for their quaint reception. They entered with a floral toss and because Kevin loves whiskey so much, she had a little surprise buried for him to dig up. Tradition says if you bury a bottle of bourbon upside down at the site of your wedding one month in advance that dirt-covered bourbon will ward off rain, bring good weather and, the morning of your wedding. And the groom digs it up for all to enjoy.
I hope you enjoy these images of Jess and Kevin from their DC War Memorial wedding ceremony in Washington, DC and their backyard reception at their home in Alexandria, VA.
